UPPER EYELID BLEPHAROPLASTY
Your eyelids (and your eyes) are usually the first
thing that other people notice when they look at you.
The eyelids and the surrounding skin and muscles express
our emotions. Their appearance and movement attract
constant attention. With time, the aging process may
cause your upper and lower eyelids to become droopy or
baggy. Your sagging eyelids may give your
entire face a sad, angry, or tired expression and
the appearance of aging prematurely. In addition, this
may result in brow and eyelid strain, headaches,
and a loss of peripheral vision - especially when
reading. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty removes excessive
baggy skin, muscle folds, and fatty bulges. With
microscopic precision, highly focused, high temperature
electrocautery is used by Dr. Starr to vaporize tissues
for clean, precise soft tissue dissection. Dr. Starr
meticulously sculpts while simultaneously sealing blood
vessels and nerve endings and preventing unwanted tissue
trauma. The opening is hidden within the upper eyelid's
natural fold and is closed with microscopically fine
synthetic sutures which are removed in 6 to 7 days.
As with all our cosmetic procedures, the upper eyelid blepharoplasty is performed under local and topical
anesthesia on an out-patient basis. Post-operative care
is usually limited to ice packs and twice daily eye
drops and ointment. Pain medications are usually
not required.
LOWER EYELID
BLEPHAROPLASTY
Puffiness of the lower eyelids
is most often the result of fatty deposits within the
eyelid. To avoid a skin incision (and possible scar), 1
to 3 micro-incisions are tunneled within the lower
eyelid, and the fatty deposits are precisely sculpted
away with the electrocautery. No stitches are necessary
when using micro-incisions.
PTOSIS REPAIR (REPAIR OF
UPPER EYELID DROOPING)
Ptosis is the medical term for
drooping of the upper eyelid, a condition that may
affect one or both eyes. Ptosis may result in a
loss of vision - especially while reading, headaches, and
eyebrow/eyelid strain. The highly complex procedure of ptosis repair can restore lost peripheral vision while
livening up a tired appearance. In the combined upper
and lower eyelid blepharoplasty with ptosis repair, Dr.
Starr uses the electrocautery
with pin-point accuracy to insure a rapid and
predictable recovery and an excellent cosmetic result.
By removing loose, sagging skin or puffy, bulging bags
of fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids Dr. Starr can
brighten your face and restore a more youthful
appearance.
